Last term....
In geography secondary 1 class...
We had a long discussion on volcanoes and how it was formed.
Doing cross sections and labelling, case studies so on and so forth.
Guess I need to figure out a 'smarter' question |
"Teacher, what bacteria lives in the volcano crater?"
and I said... "I don't know" along with "so we were discussing about volcano formation right? anything related to that?"
so he smiled and said "No"
Colurful, human beings they are.... are they not?
...............................................................
So, I explored my student's question by looking up on the internet and found Extremophiles,
It is thermophiles, that are found in and around areas home to recent eruptions. CO oxidizers and Methanotrophs are two important types of bacteria found after the lava or ash has cooled. These organisms utilize endospores to face the extreme heat involved with volcanoes.

p/s: One thing, I got new knowledge upon saying 'I dont know..."Another challenge is how to educate my students to ask the right question, as doing so should assisst them to understand better.. instead of asking what they like to know, they must prioratize 'what the need to know'...
